5 Basic Tips for Your Camping Trip:

1. Leave family and/or friends a message with the following information:

  1. The exact location of where you plan to camp. (Campground, park, etc.)
  2. A number that you can be reached at. (Cell phone, hotel, lodge, cabin, etc.)
  3. The time that you expect to return and your latest possible return time.
  4. Vehicle information such as license plate, registration and/or other documentation. This is especially crucial if using a rental vehicle.

2. Check your equipment.

  1. After deciding what equipment you will take from your checklist, be sure to test to make sure that it is all still in working condition.
  2. Test any electronics that you will be taking and test the batteries that they are using.
  3. Do some routine maintenance and checks on any vehicle or equipment that you might be taking on your camping trip.

3. Always carry proper identification.

  1. Be sure to use our Document Checklist and carry the proper identification with you at all times.

4. Avoid over packing or under packing.

  1. Before you leave on your next camping trip, be sure to double check to make sure you have everything that you will need. This will help you to avoid a trip to a local store to buy things you forgot to pack
  2. While it is important to have everything that you need, it is important not to pack too much. This can make it difficult to find something when you need it.
  3. Also, avoid leaving things behind that you could possibly need. Better safe then sorry when it comes to camping trip essentials.

5. Know your location.

  • Things to consider:
    1. The weather
    2. The lay of the land (topographical maps).
    3. Local wildlife that could be dangerous to you.
    4. Local places or paths to avoid while camping.
