- Before you begin any drywall repair, clean the area using a damp sponge.
- Avoid starting until you have all your tools and materials ready and in place.
- To prevent mess and make future cleanup easier, lay a plastic drop cloth on the floor.
- Don’t feel like you have to do it all yourself. Ask a friend or family member to help you out.
- When applying compound, 3-4 light coats is ideal.
- Instead of sanding after every coat, wait to sand until after your final coat.
- During the sanding process, wearing goggles and a mask is recommended.
- Keep your tools and materials out of sight and reach of children.
- Avoid letting the project drag on over a long period of time. Map it out step by step and have a set time frame that you would like to complete the project in.
- Know when you are in over your head. If problem area is proving to be too much, consulting a professional may be your best option.
