Glazing Techniques
- Spraying
- Clean your piece, removing all dust and clay particles.
- Place the desired glaze mixture into your sprayer.
- Using a steady and constant side to side motion, cover your piece from every side and angle.
- Allow excess paint to drip off. Do not attempt to shake the excess glaze off or the glaze will become uneven.
- Allow for 24 hours between spraying.
- Repeat process with either 2 or 3 coats for an ideal finish.
- Dipping
- Clean your piece of all dust and clay particles.
- Mix your desired glaze into a container large enough to hold your entire piece.
- Use clean hands or dipping tongs to hold the piece while dipping.
- Dip with one single, smooth motion in and out of the glaze not allowing the piece to touch the sides or bottom of your container.
- When removing your piece from the dipping container, allow the excess to slow drip off. Do not attempt to shake the excess off or the glaze will become uneven.
- Allow for up to 48 hours of drying time depending on the size of your piece.
- Repeat process with either 2 or 3 coats for an ideal finish.
- Trailing
- Clean your piece thoroughly, removing all dust and clay particles.
- Place your raised pattern in the desired position on your piece.
- Cover the pattern with a clear, sealing graze using a clean brush.
- Periodically rinse your brush to prevent it picking up excess material that could affect the outcome of your piece.
- Allow for 48 hours of drying time. If any less time, the raised pattern is unlikely to stay in place.
- Repeat process with either 2 or 3 coats for an ideal finish.
- Brushing/Painting
- Begin with a clean brush.
- Use a sponge to remove excess dust and clay from the piece.
