5 Basic Tips for your Fishing Trip

1. Leave your family and/or friends a message with the following information:

  1. The exact location of where you plan to fish.
  2. A number that you can be reached at. (Cell Phone, hotel, cabin, lodge, etc.)
  3. The time that you expect to return and your latest possible return time.
  4. Vehicle information such as license plate, registration and/or other documentation. This is especially crucial if using a rental vehicle.

2. Check your equipment thoroughly.

  1. After deciding what equipment you will take from your checklist, be sure to test to make sure that it is all still in working condition.
  2. Test any electronics that you will be taking and test the batteries that they are using.
  3. Do some routine maintenance and checks on any vehicle that you might be taking on your fishing trip. (Car, Boat, ATV, etc.)

3. Always carry proper identification.

  1. Be sure to use our Document Checklist and carry the proper identification with you at all times.

4. Avoid over packing or under packing.

  1. Before you leave on your next fishing trip, be sure to double check to make sure you have everything that you will need. This will help you to avoid a trip to a local store to buy things you forgot to pack
  2. While it is important to have everything that you need, it is important not to pack too much. This can make it difficult to find something when you need it.
  3. Also, avoid leaving things behind that you could possibly need. Better safe then sorry when it comes to fishing trip essentials.

5. Know your location.

  • Things to consider:
    1. The weather
    2. The best times of day for fishing
    3. Water levels for the river or lake
    4. Local fishing rules and regulations (Is your destination catch and release?)
    5. Levels in the area of the lake or river you are fishing, check them at our public resource here.

The Fishing Trip Checklist is an attempt to provide a list of essential items. While not 100% complete for everyone's personal needs, the checklist is offered as a nearly complete list of items you'll need or may want to consider bringing with you on your next trip.

After using the checklist on your fishing trip, evaluate the effectiveness of the listed items. If you find some items or tricks-of-the-trade that would help in future trips, share them with your community here at eCountryLifestyle to make future fishing trips more fun and enjoyable for all.

Items in the checklist are suggested, but not all of them are necessarily essential items to take along. The items should be included when needed, at your convenience or ability to do so, which is why we make it easy for you to build your own modified checklist from the checklist we provide.
